TierPoint’s Research Triangle Park data center is located at 99 T W. Alexander Drive Raleigh, NC 27709. The data center is located in the world’s largest research center and home to 170 global companies. Data center is Miami-Dade Country hardener rated to withstand up to 149 MPH winds. The building is masonry and steel construction with ballistic resistant walls, doors, and windows.
Research Triangle Park data center is a Tier III modular infrastructure, and certified by Uptime Institute. The colocation services are provided through cabinets and caged space. All the cage locks require unique laser etched keys with magnetic signatures to get access. The data center provides 22,000 square feet of space including 10,000 square feet of 36 inches high raised floor with 1200 lbs. per square feet load bearing capacity. The data center is SSAE 16 SOC I Type II certified. The data center has a very secure environment including 24 x 7 physical security, and sensor driven camera monitoring and recording of all the areas. Two factor authentications that include the use of biometric hand scanners verify unique hand geometry image and a heat signature before allowing entry into data center. The data center uses a pre action dry pipe fire suppression system with multiple zone VESDA early warning system, and has got three level alarm annunciation throughout complex.
Research data center is LEED Gold certified, and is designed for 1.2-1.5 PUE target efficiency. The data center power infrastructure is a 2N or system plus redundancy design, and provides 2,500 kVA of utility power with an expansion facility up to 12,000 kVA. The power distribution systems ensure that every power circuit delivered to a customer’s cabinet is clean and isolated from other customer circuits. The facility maintains 8 x 300 kVA PDUs, and has fully 2N A-side and B-side power distribution design. Each customer cabinet has a redundant A-side and B-Side power feeds. The immediate power failure is protected by 2 x 1200 kVA APC UPS system with battery bank. The 2 x 2000 kW Cummings diesel generators with 4000 gallons fuel storage onsite provides the backup facility on the loss of utility power. The generators tested weekly at no load, and biweekly at full load, and has redundant A-Side and B-Side PLCs. The cooling and humidity is maintained through 4 x high efficiency 120 tons air handlers in N+1 configuration. Conditioned power is supplied via raised floor for more efficient and effective cooling of computer equipment. The building management system is installed to monitor all critical infrastructure.
Research Triangle Park data center is a carrier neutral facility, and is connected to multiple TierPoint core POP sites via redundant OC-192 10Gbps circuits. Each circuit takes diverse paths from the data center facility and the circuit paths are engineered so that there is no single point of failure. The network infrastructure is Cisco certified core network, and access to TierPoint MPLS network. TierPoint utilize Internet and MPLS connectivity via multiple fiber routes in and out of colocation, as well as diverse paths to the Internet. TierPoint utilizes a suite of monitoring tools and methods to provide proactive notification of server or service affecting events. 24 x 7 x 365 NOC center provides help desk services to the customers, and continuously monitors critical events. The NOC also provides the remote hand services.
