Compass’s Raleigh data center is located at 99 TW Alexander Drive Durham, NC 27711. The data center is located just 29 miles from the city’s downtown area and is located within Research Triangle Park. The data center is Level 5 commissioned and built using patent pending architecture within a shell made up of 12″ thick steel reinforced insulated precast concrete walls. An 18 inches multilayered roof provides a Level 1.5 seismic importance factor and enables building to withstand winds of up to 150mph. The data center provides amenities like office space, break room, 1,100 square feet pre wired storage and staging area, and loading docks.
The Raleigh data center is a certified Tier III infrastructure facility from Uptime Institute to ensure that every system is concurrently maintainable and achieves the level of reliability specified by the UI’s rigorous standards. The data center provides wholesale and retail colocation services. The campus has currently has presently one data center of 21,000 square feet with the capacity to add upto two more data centers. The data center provides 10,000 square feet of 36 inches column free raised floor to support mixed load groups. The building is a hardened security stations with ballistic rated level III windows and ballistic shielding at the security station. The security measures include onsite security guards, digital security cameras with video recording, and exterior security lighting. The multilevel authentication is required for gaining access in the data center including biometric scan, card readers, and mantrap entry. The facility also offers to integrate customers’ security specification. The data center is equipped with state of art fire detection and suppression system for any fire spark.
The data center is a USGBC LEED Gold certified facility, and is 2N electrical design and distribution. A total of 1.2 MW of utility power is fed to the data center with the options for growth. The immediate power failure is protected through UPS system in 2N redundancy with shifting of load through automatic transfer switch to standby diesel generators in N+1 configuration. The generators are regularly tested and maintained. The data center provides power density of upto 400 watts per square feet or support rack densities from 20 kW to 30 kW. The diverse power in A+B design is delivered through STS based Power Distribution Units (PDUs). Core of Compass’ minimum load, maximum performance design delivers a PUE of 1.2 to 1.5 at loads as low as 25% without the CapEx and OpEx costs of water based cooling systems. The HVAC units in N+1 redundancy effectively moderates cooling and humidity in the data center for the optimized performance. The Building Management System (BMS) is used for monitoring of the entire critical infrastructure in the data center.
The data center is a carrier neutral facility with options to connect multiple service providers. The facility has two connectivity paths into, and diverse paths throughout the facility. The data center has a generator backed primary POP room along with a diverse entrance, passive counterpart.
