TierPoint’s Raleigh data center is located at 5301 Departure Drive Raleigh, NC 27616. The data center is strategically located outside of severe weather and seismic zones, and is rated to withstand hurricane force winds. The building is made of masonry and steel, with full brick ballistic resistant walls, doors, and windows. The Raleigh data center is designed to meet the most demanding requirements ensuring systems, applications, and data are safe from tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, floods and other disasters.
The colocation services are provided through half / full cabinets and secured custom caged space. All the cage locks require unique laser etched keys with magnetic signatures to get access. The data center is SSAE 16 SOC I Type II certified. The data center has a very secure environment including 24 x 7 physical security, and sensor driven camera monitoring and recording of all the areas. Two factor authentication that includes the use of biometric hand scanners and card reader access system before allowing entry into data center. Double man trap forces double verification and provides extra secure data center entry.
The data center is fully 2N power design with redundant utility transformers, generators, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATSs), main switch panels, UPSs and PDUs. Power distribution consist of an A-Side and B-Side methodology with automated failover between electrical systems. Dual sourced PDUs are fed from both the A side and B side power infrastructure and can automatically switch to an alternate power source in the event of failure. Emergency power to the facility is provided by redundant 2 MW diesel generator with 36 Hours continuous running time without need to refuel. All the power infrastructure including cages and cabinets are properly grounded.
A minimum of N+1 configuration at the Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC) level and 2N at the back end chiller and cooling tower level for automating the temperature and humidity in the data center. Raised floor provides conditioned air for more efficient and effective cooling of computer equipment. The moisture containment basins and sensors ensure no moisture enters the data center. The data center also provides separate and further redundant cooling systems for critical support areas including NOC, MIS, and Security. Foreseer and JACE Building Management System is installed with on site and remote monitoring and control of all HVAC, generators, UPS systems and switchboards, as well as other mechanical systems.
Raleigh data center is a carrier neutral facility and fully redundant core network gear within the data center. The network infrastructure is Cisco certified core network, and access to TierPoint MPLS network. Network Operation Center (NOC) provides facility and network monitoring, security, technical, and remote hands support.
