The Richmond data center is a fully fault tolerant facility with power fed from two transmission lines from two independent Dominion substations. Two dedicated on site substations currently 110 MVA to the facility that is upgradable to 220 MVA in future, and two 55 MVA transformers in complete redundant configuration distribute power to the site. The redundant UPS system and generators provide the back up power to the data center on the loss of utility power. A total of 25,000 tons of cooling is provided through two independent chiller plants each at N+1 configuration, and additional cooling by two Glycol chillers. Air temperature, humidity, fire detection and water pressure are managed by automated control system.
The data center is a carrier neutral facility providing access to multiple providers for local fiber, Internet connectivity. The available in-house carriers include ComCast, Level 3, Intellifiber, and Verizon. In addition to in-house carriers, regional fiber connectivity provides two distinct and diverse paths out of facility and creating fully protected diverse routes to Culpeper and Northern Virginia; 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps wavelength with protected and unprotected options.
