INAP’s Boston data center (BSN003) is located at 50 Innerbelt Road, Somerville, MA 2143. The building is a purpose built single use facility dedicated only to colocation and related service offerings. The facility is situated in Metropolitan Boston, bordering Cambridge, and located just outside of Boston’s Central Business District. It is close to the thoroughfares of I-93 and Route 28 and is approximately five miles from Logan International Airport. The data center is a precast concrete structure with reinforced steel, and has 80 MPH wind rating. The data center provides secured receiving and storage areas, 8’x8′ dock height freight elevator, and onsite free parking for 84 vehicles. The facility provides amenities like fully equipped office space, conference room, technical workspace and adjacent breakdown rooms, and full service lounge. The data center is a Tier III infrastructure facility.
The data center offers a number of colocation options, including cabinets in half and full sizes, and custom private caged space. INAP uses Chatsworth Products’ 4-Post QuadraRack ServerFrame which provides a highly secure storage environment. The data center provides 45,000 square feet of total enclosed space, and 14 feet of clear height from top of raised floor to bottom of drop ceiling. The facility has 31,000 square feet of 36 inches antistatic raised floor for the efficient cooling and easy management of cabling system. These floor are designed for the floor load of 500 lbs. per square feet. The facility is regularly audited in accordance with SSAE 16 Type II requirements. The data center provides the state of the art security measures, including 24x7x365 security guards onsite, CCTV monitoring with archiving of data for 90 days, and intrusion detection system. The entrance to the data center floor is authenticated through the use of card key and biometric scan. The facility uses pre action dry pipe fire suppression system for the life safety. The data center also has smoke and heat detection facility and is remotely monitored.
Boston (BSN003) is a reliable and fault tolerant N+1 power infrastructure with concurrently maintainable power system. The facility is efficient energy design and provides efficient working environment by consuming fewer fossil fuels, reducing greenhouse emissions, minimizing the impact on land. A total of 4 MW of power is served to the data center, and delivered through redundant power feeds by nStar utility. The data center delivers the higher power density of 150 watts per square feet. The entire critical infrastructure is protected by 5 x 750 kVA GE parallel UPS system in N+1 redundancy on power failure. The secondary power is provided by 3 x 2 MW Baldor N+1 diesel generators onsite. The data center provides single and three phase AC and 48V DC power to the customers’ equipment. The DC battery bank provides 15 minutes of backup time on full load, and power density of 12 kW per rack. The cooling and humidity in the data center is maintained by roof top cooling units delivering 1,700 tons of cooling in N+1 configuration. The hot aisle, cold aisle separation and passive cooling solutions maximize cooling efficiencies. The Building Control System automatically controls the temperature and humidity inside the data center regardless of outside weather conditions.
50 Innerbelt Road is a carrier neutral facility with robust carrier neutral meet-me-room, including alternative transit and local access options. The data center offers 100% network uptime SLA, and has dual fiber entrances and diverse fiber conduit. INAP’s multi-homed route optimized Performance IP provides links up to 10GB through multiple top tier carriers. 24x7x365 NOC staff provides the helpdesk and support services, and remote hands services.
